Low-carb cheeseburger option

Everyone loves a good cheeseburger, but it can be a very high calorie meal. Here’s a lower-carb option that’s filling and full of fiber. To reduce the amount of fat in the salad, omit the cheese and/or avocado.


3oz. (85g) romaine lettuce
1.5 cups (42.5g) spinach
¼ cup (37g) cherry tomatoes, diced
¼ serving (7g) sharp cheddar cheese
30g (1.1oz) mashed avocado
1 slice bacon, crumbled
1 pickle spear, diced
6 oz. ground beef 93/7 lean (can substitute ground turkey)

In a medium skillet, brown ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder, paprika and a dash of cayenne pepper if you like some heat. Drain excess fat and measure out 6oz cooked ground beef.

Find a large bowl for preparing your cheeseburger salad. Dice lettuce and mix on the bottom. Place remaining ingredients in sections around bowl for aesthetics.

Top with freshly ground coarse salt and pepper. Add your favorite dressing if desired, which is NOT included in macros below. Some of my favorite dressings are Trader Joes green goddess and Bolthouse farms yogurt dressings – ranch, blue cheese or cilantro avocado would be amazing on this salad. Enjoy!
